Avatars of War scuplt

Felix over at Avatars of War is doing a sculpt for me for supporting the Dwarf fundraiser campaign.  Here's a couple of the first sketches I received.  A few changes are being made and then the sculpting begins!  The drawings were done by Wayne England by the way!

Sometimes you get the perfect light...

It's hard to take a 'great' photo.  I use numerous lights from crazy angles and 9 times out of 10 still don't get the results I want.  Sometimes you get the perfect light shining in from outside your window, that mix of sun with a light cloud filter, and you have to rush for your camera and your miniatures as fast as you can.

I had a few minutes of great light today and took some action shots of a few minis.  The images in the older White Dwarfs always captured the miniatures so well and made you feel like they were alive.  Here's a few action shots I took, by no means WD worthy, but I hope I brought some life to them.

Marauder Giant - Every Dwarf Army Should Have One!

In my personal opinion this guy belongs in a Dwarf Army.  The question is whether he stole the barrel of Bugman's, was given it as payment to fight or  needs a little liquid courage to stand next to a bunch of crazed Giant Slayers haha.

I have always loved this model.  When I was a kid I saved up my money and bought it from a little shop, hidden in the market, in Inverness, Scotland.  It's amazing the sheer size of this model and the weight of all that beautiful metal.

I never got round to painting him when I was younger, although I did use him in a couple of rough rules battles (excellent for knocking down castle gates made of books and paint pots).  I decided to throw some color on him and see if I could bring him to life.

Working on my Clansmen for the painting competition @ www.bugmansbrewery.com

Stay tuned!

Edit: Only got the 10 completed for the comp but looks like a 2nd place behind the magnificent slayer unit from Jaekel.

The Host of Dirken Thorn

I wanted to take pictures of my lead for insurance purposes (in case they go down fighting in a fiery blaze) but instead I took a quick video and threw in some LOTR music ha.  This is most of my GW lead except for about another 100 minis that need stripping.  I didn't include my hoard of Ratnik, BTD and WhiteKnight Dwarves.

LE14 Tinman and Oxy O'Cetylene

Something tells me that these two characters might get more popular with the upcoming Dwarf releases from GW.  If there is a new Golem of some sort than the Tinman would make a great substitute for us oldschoolers that still believe plastic is for making garbage bags, not miniatures.  Great sculpts by Aly Morrison!

Painting Ironbreakers hmmmmmm...

Don't get me wrong, I do like these models. But...  Is it just me or do they all look the same?  Marauder kind of got into the monopose game with their Ironbreakers but to me there was more character and facial differentiation with the models.  These however seem a little too cookie cuter.  Having said that they do look the part; tough, heavily armoured Dwarfs that protect the lower halls and tunnels long unused.  Throw in the truly impressive Dwarf Lord model and there is potential for the unit.

I didn't spend a tonne of time on the painting.  I just want to test different ways to make the monoposers (my new word) stand out from each other such as the gold helms, blue chestpieces and the Tomb King shields with Dwarf emblems.
